Introduction
Hi! I’m Monica. I’m originally from Shanghai, China, and I’m currently studying psychology and really into research on memory and emotion. Outside of school, I love listening to music, watching TV, and just unwinding with a good book or writing when I have the time. I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan—if you stuck with Harry till the very end, we’ll definitely have something to talk about :)

This mentor can support projects in cognitive neuroscience, experimental psychology, neuroimaging analyses, and statistical modeling. Their broader interests include psychology, cognitive science, and statistics.
Background
I have conducted research across cognitive neuroscience, affective science, and psychophysiology. Currently, in the Cognitive and Affective Neuropsychology Lab at the University of Michigan, I collect and analyze behavioral data in R and help develop experimental paradigms on affective working memory, while mentoring students on an Emotional OSPAN project.
At Stanford’s Psychophysiology Lab, I led a project using EMG to examine facial responses to emotional stimuli and co-led a meta-analysis on disgust-related reactivity.
As an undergraduate at Emory, I completed an honors thesis investigating how post-encoding emotional arousal influences memory, using PsychoPy and physiological measures (e.g., heart rate, skin conductance). I also worked on longitudinal and genetic data in clinical and developmental research settings, and contributed to a meta-analysis on motor skill retention.
These experiences have given me strong training in experimental design, data analysis, and integrating behavioral and physiological methods to study cognition and emotion.
